Food, emotional eating and trauma (Part 1 - how food is connected to nurturing)

When we were babies and hunger struck, a caregiver would breastfeed or bottle feed us. And coupled with this action, most commonly, they would hold us in their arms. Giving us the sense of safety, warmth, care and connection.

This way, in our tiny baby brains, bit by bit, food starts to couple with love, nurturing and survival.

Growing up things can get more complicated, especially when/if food start to be used as reward, punishment or a soothing solution.

So no wonder why so many of us emotionally eat as adults.

We all have our own stories with food. Admittedly, my relationship with food has been one of the hardest issues for me to resolve (and I still consider it a working in progress in my own life).

In this series, I will be talking a bit about this important topic and will share some solutions to this complex issue.

How is your relationship with food? I would love to hear your story, if you feel like sharing.
