Hypersensitivity to places and people is a sign of nervous system dysregulation
I spent many years of my life struggling to go to busy shops, to be in certain places and around certain people.
In looking for explanations for this, I found many spiritual school of thoughts explaining various things. Many said this was happening because I was an “Empath” and/or had special spiritual abilities. I went along with those ideas for awhile, but the whole thing became a nightmare. I had to do special shielding before going out and all sort of things to keep it at bay and even after all my efforts I was still being triggered in many environments.
I eventually realised that the “Empath” label and spiritual label of having special abilities was good for the ego, but didn’t resolve anything. Plus it kept me stuck in some unproductive life space, of being a victim of the outside environment.
Only years later, after doing my own trauma integration work and eventually becoming a practitioner myself, I realised that such a thing is just nervous system dysregulaton and long term accumulation of survival strategies.
“Empath” or having a special gift of sensitivity, is actually a sign of nervous system dysregulation.
Unresolved trauma is often one of the main causes for this.
Our bodies were created to be strong and capable. We are meant to be productive humans beings with the ability to navigate all sort of environments. A resilient nervous system can achieve all of these things without being constantly triggered.
