Why so many of us are feeling burned out?

It’s not a surprise that in a society that values “doing” over “being” that burnout is on the rise.

To add insult to injury, so many of us use people pleasing (fawn) as a survival strategy. We say yes, when we know we already have too much on our plates.

But do we actually know when we have too much on our plates?!

Do you know your limits?

We have a “sixth sense” called interoception. This is what enables us to sense our bodies from the inside out. It is what helps us identify hunger, pain, internal temperature, satiety etc... It’s also what allows us to feel sensory input from the body to the brain. There is an ongoing dialogue between your gut and your brain.

Interoception is also a key component of nervous system and emotional regulation.
Numerous studies have suggested that poor interoception is linked to mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, mood disorders and more.

Interoception is the hidden link in physical, mental and emotional well being.

Living with chronic stress and unresolved trauma result in poor interoception.

Trauma and continuous state of stress causes us to disconnect from the body in order to survive. And for this reason it’s so hard for many who have endured these conditions to recognise their limits, leading to burnout, chronic physical issues or/and mental health issues.

The good news is that interoception can be “trained”. This is one of the main focus of the somatic healing work. Reconnection to your body and sense of self is key to long lasting healing and well being.

Did you know about your “sixth sense”?
