A dysregulated nervous system can hijack your behaviours and emotions

Contrary to popular belief, emotions happen in the body. Emotions are physiological responses expressed somatically (through the body and the nervous system).

Below you can read a few examples of how nervous system states can interfere with your emotions and consequently with your behaviours.

🔹Emotions and behaviours of a nervous system that is mostly operating from a fight response.

😠 Passive aggression.
😠 Sudden bursts of anger/rage.
😠 Ruminating for hours and even days/weeks after disagreements…

🔹Emotions and behaviours of a nervous system that is mostly operating from a flight response.

🏃🏼Racing thoughts.
🏃‍♂️Difficulty to sit still.
🏃🏻‍♀️Feelings of urgency in everything you do.

🔹Emotions and behaviours of a nervous system that is mostly operating from a freeze response.

❄️ Numbness.
❄️ Spaced out.
❄️ Inability to start projects and/or finish tasks.

These are non exhaustive lists. It’s only a small sample to show you how your emotions and behaviours are intrinsically linked to nervous system dysregulation.

That’s why no matter how much therapy, awareness and inner work you have under your belt, you can still often find yourself puzzled with certain unwanted reactions and behaviours.

Nervous system work is the base of healing. Without regulation and a felt sense of safety in your body you will, more often than not, operate from old protective patterns of behaviour in your interactions with people and the world.

Shift your nervous system set point and you can start to finally shift stubborn patterns of behaviours and emotions.
