Activation is part of healing

To “sit” with discomfort is one of the hardest hurdles we face as human beings.

So when we come looking for healing the last thing we want is to experience discomfort.

There is a common misunderstanding that once we start doing somatic work we will stop experiencing discomfort.

It’s true that somatic work can improve many symptoms, and in some cases we can see incredible results quite quickly.

But if you have a complex presentation and/or a very sensitive nervous system; once you start going deeper in your healing, unprocessed material will come to the surface.

In deep healing work we are changing your baseline regulation and your system might feel discomfort because it tends to fight back the new healthier set point.

Safety feels like a threat to a body which is used to self protect.

Softness, spaciousness and relaxation feels like defencelessness.

So your body will be likely to fight back and this is what is causing the temporary states of discomforts.

It’s also important to note, that we will be metabolising all the unprocessed fight/flight/freeze/shutdown that have been “stuck” in your system for decades and causing the negative mental, emotional and physical symptoms.

But there is no need to fear the process. The work is titrated (done in small doses) so that we do not push back too strongly against your current baseline. Little by little you will experience more ease, will have more energy and clarity.

Moving through discomfort in productive ways is necessary and very healing in itself.

The difference is that this time around you are not alone while moving through these “tricky spots”. And at the same time you are finally processing the stuckness + you will be building more resilience and capacity in the process.
