You can only integrate what your nervous system can regulate
I have done many forms of therapy, energy healing and mindset work, but it was only when I started the somatic healing work that things truly shifted for me.
You can only heal what your nervous system can regulate.
If your nervous system can’t regulate certain painful and deep emotions, a few things can happen:
• You won’t reach the deeper layers because your body is simply not ready to regulate these difficult emotions.
• You may “blow up” your nervous system by going too deep and/or too fast, with certain methods that are not trauma informed.
• You may access the edge of these implicit memories with said methods, but can’t regulate them very well. Then it becomes an extremely tough journey.
What to do?
If you are not sure where to start and what to do next, somatic healing, with emphasis in nervous system regulation is a safe bet.
How to know what are the best somatic healing tools?
True somatic healing is gentle, titrated (done in small doses). It respects your unique nervous system and your limits. It encourages you to identify your own body’s needs and resources that work for you. Cathartic practices and pushing your limits is not considered trauma informed somatic healing.
For healing to “stick” you need to feel safe in your own body and your nervous system need to be able to regulate what comes up.
