I have found over the years, in my own healing journey and in my supporting role with hundreds of clients, that integration doesn’t happen at the level of cognition…
It seems that healing happens in the space between letting go and trying to control the process.
The mind will always try to fill in the blanks, trying to understand, categorising and finding solutions. It is doing what it knows best and we want the mind to be on board. After all, we are rational beings.
Self awareness is welcomed in the process.
But there is a deeper layer, below the cognitive level. It takes over, in a good way, after awhile, when you give up over analysing the process. This layer will use your mind to give you profound insights, but this mostly only happens once you have let go of the strong need to control.
There is a sweet spot “where” you just start trusting that there is something bigger, out of your control, at play. You start to trust that your body knows what to do if you work with it.
You start to accept where you are at, understanding your own limitations and stop comparing yourself to others.
You start realising that your uniqueness is what makes you YOU. Your story is what has made you YOU.
From this space you then start being more open and truly curious towards your healing process. This genuine letting go in clients is something I never get tired of witnessing. Such honour!
Staying the course, despite all the valleys and self doubt that can show up along the way, it’s one of the best gifts you can give to yourself.
