A nervous system that is in a state of functional freeze has a very low capacity to face challenges. That’s why procrastination is its modus operandi…

The nervous system in freeze also has a low capacity for healing.

What I mean by this is that it has a very low capacity to process emotions, memories and the traumas it went through.

For this reason the healing must be done gradually, with good titration (in small chunks) and gently.

A nervous system in functional freeze needs support, co-regulation and moment to moment gentle attunement.

Healing from functional freeze requires less techniques and somatic practices and more space, simplicity and little to zero push.

This phase of healing doesn’t last forever, but it’s an extremely necessary phase. There is no skipping this stage.

When it comes to the “healing work” is extremely important to realise this, because the more push and expectations you apply to your healing the further you will go into freeze.

I know it can feel frustrating to read this, because you want to heal and you want it to happen as soon as possible. But in reality I see people get well much faster by taking this “slow” and gentle approach. When the titration is done with precision for your specific needs your system relaxes and reorganises much quicker.

Have you tried to push in your healing journey? if so, I would love to hear your experience.
