No amount of figuring out will regulate the nervous system
It’s true that it’s important to get the mind on board and that psychoeducation and somatic education is an important aspect of healing.
But ruminating and trying to make sense in our heads of why, how and trying hard to understand our symptoms won’t get us any closer to healing.
The deeper part of us. The healthy identity, is a resonating Identity. This means it is non verbal and has a language that mostly understands emotions and subtle signals of life, the environment and others.
When our minds come strongly on board, around 3 years old, we start to lose touch with this deeper part of ourselves.
A baby understands attunement. A mother who is attuned to her baby doesn’t need to read a book about how to help her baby stop crying. She simply attunes to them and give them what he/she needs. This is the same language of your Healthy Self. A language that is mostly nervous system based. It’s not cognitive. It just is.
That’s why deep healing takes time and a gentle approach. Deep healing requires listening deeply, dropping our insistence of controlling everything with the mind. There are no deadlines. And this can’t be forced, as excessively using the thinking mind is a survival strategy that needs to be respected.
The solution to a healthy psyche and wellbeing at all levels is to bring ourselves closer to this beautiful primal language we all have. The language of attunement towards ourselves and towards one another.
