Unexpressed anger stays in the body
Did you know you hold anger in your jaw?
And later on in life suppressed anger can show up as an array of unexplainable symptoms.
One of the first ways we express anger is through biting.
A baby may get frustrated when the milk is not coming out of the breast and it may bite the mother.
A toddler gets upset with a little friend because they are not sharing a toy. Biting ensues as a expression of frustration and anger.
Biting is not socially acceptable, like many other strong expression of emotions. When this is the case the only way forward is suppressing it.
What we suppress doesn’t go away. It stays in our bodies.
In adult life unexpressed anger can show up as:
• Binge/over eating.
• Teeth grinding.
• Tension on shoulders and neck.
• Digestive issues.
• Melancholy/lingering sadness.
• Tension in the jaw.
• Lack of energy.
• Headaches.
• TMD ...
Trying to solve unexpressed anger issues in cathartic practices doesn’t help long term. The process needs to be titrated (in small doses).
Addressing these symptoms somatically will finally give a healthy, safe and titrated outlet for these buried strong emotions.
With this you will finally invite more flow, ease and joy into your life.
And as a pleasant “side effect” you will also invite healing for many of the physical and emotional conditions you face caused by unexpressed anger.
