Pointers to avoid sensory overload

Some of us have sensitive nervous systems.

Here are a few pointers to help you on your journey if you notice you have a tendency to feel overwhelmed.

🌿 Guard your sleep. Practice sleep hygiene as much as you can. Watch sunset in the evenings and early sunshine first thing in the mornings. Use blue light blocking glasses in the house, after sunset. Make sure you get enough sleep. Lack of sleep and tiredness can often bring on sensory overload to those of us with a sensitive nervous system.

🌿 Use your resources throughout the day, not only when you start to notice stress. Having small pauses throughout the day, helps you avoid overwhelm catching you off guard later in the day.

🌿 It’s important to practice communicating your needs to people around you (practice first with people you feel safe with, when not feeling overwhelmed). This way you will feel more equipped to communicate your needs when feeling overwhelmed.

🌿 Having self compassion and acceptance for your body and for where you are at in your journey. Avoid comparing yourself with others.

For those of us with sensitive nervous
self-regulation will look a bit different, as we learn to work with our true window of tolerance.

Do you have a sensitive nervous system? How did you realise this?
