Positive momentum on your healing journey
We have years of patterns that our systems have built for survival.
In SE (Somatic Experiencing), as taught by Peter Levine, there is a concept called the trauma vortex, a familiar space that we go into often, as the system is used to contract in self protection.
The quick fix personal development/coaching industry has taught us to expect big changes according to the amount of effort we put into healing. Therefore it’s not uncommon to be impatience when we start engaging in deep healing work. We want to feel better NOW!
For the ones who are dedicated to their healing, what I see often is in the beginning, a small improvement, bringing much excitement, followed by a dip and leaving frustration at its wake.
This is a good sign. It’s a sign that your system has a bit more space, and it can now start bringing up more layers to be seen, felt and integrated.
This is transformational work, but it’s not a quick fix. Part of the healing is to finally gain enough capacity to engage what has been suppressed for years.
The years of suppression and self protection is what is causing chronic pain, anxiety, depression and inability to be present in our own bodies.
What has been suppressed is uncomfortable and that’s why you can sometimes feel worse before you feel better. But this is just the turning point between “negative” and “positive” momentum.
You are simply and finally engaging with the core issues. Healing at the root.
And that’s why titration is extremely important. We titrate to avoid retraumatization and to mitigate the feelings and sensations that the trauma vortex may brings. Bit by bit you will be navigating towards more positive momentum, building more resilience, capacity and flexibility in your system.
Can you relate to this? I would love to hear how has your healing experience been so far.
