Somatic work changed my life
Somatic work is done through and via the body.
We speak the body’s language. We feel the body’s sensations. We take time away from perspectivizing, mentally understanding every single detail and we finally give ourselves over to the ancient wisdom of the body.
We finally start relaxing within our own being.
In my own first few personal sessions of Somatic Experiencing (SE) I wanted to talk, talk and talk. My cup was full of the wrong ideas of how I should resolve and integrate my issues. I didn’t realise then that there was a way out without sharing every single detail to death.
I only saw this after years of therapy and many other approaches. I finally realised why cognitive approaches never felt enough.
Trying to solve a feeling problem through thinking doesn’t take you too far.
What a relief to let the body finally “speak”. What a breath of fresh air to be able to let it be. To be able to let the body do its work without my interference.
We, humans, are mostly driven by our emotions, all emotions are felt in the body. Trauma is felt through the body too. It is stored in our muscles, fascia, organs and cells.
What a better way to integrate than through the body?!
