Struggling to start and keeping new habits?
The nervous system is the ruler of the body-mind complex.
If your nervous system is dysregulated because of chronic stress and/or trauma you will struggle to start healthy habits. At times you might be able to start a new habit for awhile, but then there is the struggle to keep doing it long-term.
The body and brain spend too much energy trying to keep up with life when your nervous system is dysregulated. So when a new habit is introduced it’s not the first priority.
And also, don’t forget that deciding to start a new habit is a decision made in the Prefrontal cortex. Trauma and chronic stress “sits” in the Reptilian brain and Limbic system, and these are the areas that rule our emotional state and keep tabs on stress. That’s why making a conscious decision to change is often not enough because our emotions and the nervous system override the conscious decision.
Dysregulated nervous system is the main reason you struggle to start and keep new good habits, but luckily it’s not too late to start to regulate your system. Check my highlights on Instagram titled resources to start this journey.
