Very important things to know about an overwhelmed nervous system
A nervous system that is in a state of overwhelm can be extremely reactive.
One more dose of a supplement, one more healing technique, one more expert opinion can be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.
The best thing you can do when in overwhelm is to take a step back and do less.
Doing less can mean:
🌿 Slowing down.
🌿 To spend more time in nature.
🌿 To create a calmer home environment; with less screen time, less noise and less visual pollution.
🌿 Stop looking for the next best thing, the next best treatment, the next best supplement etc…
🌿 To spend more time in silence and in prayer.
🌿 To take time to be more compassionate towards yourself and those around you.
🌿 To prioritise just one or two (only) helpful interventions at the time.
Try implementing the simple habit of noticing what feels ok all around you.
A body/mind that is in overwhelm is very used to focus on negative experiences.
Take sometime to acknowledge experiences and/or sensations that feel ok or neutral. This way you can start rewiring your brain to be able to take in more positive experiencies and consequently, having more capacity and resilience.
