What to do when I find it difficult to connect to my body?

It’s not uncommon to have difficulties connecting to the body when there is unresolved trauma and a lot of survival stress “stuck” in the nervous system.

It’s important to realise that the inability to connect to your body is a survival strategy, an intelligent way your body/mind have found to keep functioning in life.

Forcing to connect to your body when you are feeling unsafe and overwhelmed is not going to be very fruitful.

In these moments and/or periods in your healing journey, you can find safety by connecting to the environment or with objects or anything you find soothing to look at outside of yourself.

For instance, the simple act of looking at:

🔸A flower.
🔸A tree.
🔸The sky.
🔸A picture of a loved one.
🔸A beautiful painting on the wall.
🔸A plant etc…

Can give your nervous system the respite it needs and once you feel less overwhelmed you can try to reconnect to your body.

I would love to hear your experience once you have tried this.
