Why changing your thoughts won’t change your nervous system

Before I knew anything about nervous system regulation and somatics, I had tried many modalities to delve deeper within myself and to improve my performance. I had so many things I wanted to do, projects and ideas I wanted to bring to life, to the realm of physical possibilities, but always found myself frustrated unable to realise them.

I only came across Experiencing (SE) @somaticexperiencingint when I was beyond done with personal development, coaching and many forms of talk therapy.
I was very skeptical at that point, but had nothing to lose.

I was shocked by the results!
I wondered: “How can something so simple have the power to bring me back to myself?!”

I had been searching for this feeling all along. It was embodiment what I needed. With embodiment my capacity to start projects and actually finish them became an every day occurrence. Whereas before freeze and shutdown would prevail, mixed with glimpses of random urges of excitement, which would lead me to start new projects just to end up abandoning them shortly afterwards.

It turned out my nervous system was dysregulated and that’s why all modalities I had tried in the past that involved mindset, understanding my patterns and talk therapies didn’t take root.

You can’t override a nervous system that is in survival mode by rationally trying to understand your patterns and by the power of positive thoughts.

Positive thoughts can be helpful in your journey, but deep rooted change has to start through the nervous system. Focusing first in getting out of your survival responses and then all the solution focused methods you have tried will naturally and finally start giving you results.
