Why I don’t prescribe set exercises for the nervous system
People often come to me wanting to do a few sessions to learn specific exercises for the vagus nerve and the nervous system.
Yes, while working with me they will learn exercises along the way and can add these to their list of resources, but learning exercises is not the main aim of what I teach or strive for with my clients.
The work is much deeper than that. My aim is for you to start to rebuild connection with yourself, with your body, your needs and your nervous system.
With deep inquiry, I guide you to start to notice how a fight/flight/freeze/shutdown feel in your body. You start to practice more self awareness and start to learn your own triggers. Then when more self-knowledge is attained we can work directly with these triggers. You develop a self-guided, self-care routine attained by your own new found self awareness.
Intertwined with the above, we also, in all sessions, gently start to “release” fight/flight/freeze/shutdown incomplete protective responses from your nervous system, at the same time as building more resilience in your system.
It’s imperative to do this with someone who has done the work themselves, as a person with a regulated nervous system is what your own nervous system is craving for. This is the power of co-regulation at play.
And with all of this and more we start to reshape your nervous system + building new neural pathways.
This work is deep and we work directly with the physiology to attain long lasting results.
Not to mention that we can also add SSP to “retune”the whole nervous system and the parts work/intention method we can also use to catapult integration, as it can go directly to the core of attachment issues at a very early stage of life.
Exercises and quick tips by themselves can never achieve what I have described. Additionally, you can’t get to know yourself by prescriptions coming from another.
Don’t get me wrong, exercises are indeed a good resource for your journey, but true long lasting healing requires much more than just a few exercises.
