Why vagus nerve stimulation might not be the best option for you

Many of us with trauma history, with the intent to heal as quickly as possible, start to add different exercises to our routine. Vagus nerve stimulation is a popular choice.

It’s important to note that the nervous system operates as a whole. The vagus nerve alone doesn’t represent the fullness of the system. And if your system is already overwhelmed, adding vagus nerve stimulation and many other methods at the same time, or even on it’s own, is likely to backfire.

At its best you are only creating more survival strategies and seeing fleeting improvement, instead of inviting long lasting healing.
At its worst you crash, taking days or weeks to recover, or/and notice more symptoms showing up.

Don’t get me wrong, these devices and exercises are tools and like any tool they need to be used appropriately to get best results.

If you have chronic health conditions and/or developmental trauma, you will probably find that these devices and methods are inviting more stress to your system.

When in doubt, keep in mind that less is more. An overwhelmed system needs less stimulation …
