You have been lied to about trauma healing
For decades I was told a could be healed of everything and that if I haven’t healed yet it’s because of my limiting beliefs, my mindset and my unwillingness to manifest a better life for myself.
This was, and probably still is, what the coaching industry sells.
An extremely damaging view that left me going round in loops looking for ineffective help for years.
Fast forward, I realised I had a history of developmental trauma. Started treating it with pragmatic and effective methods, such as Somatic Experiencing (SE) and Polyvagal guided frameworks.
I got better, I finally managed to finish projects I had failed to keep up with in the past. I started to connect deeper with loved ones. I had more capacity to cope with busy and difficult periods of life without crashing. Many emotional triggers and unhealthy reactions had vanished etc…
But here is the thing. I still don’t have the same amount of capacity as someone who didn’t experience developmental trauma. I still live with a chronic condition that stops me receiving medical support and many good interventions that could improve the impacts of trauma in my life.
I’m not saying this to discourage you. I still find myself surprised every single day by results I see in my clients. Sometimes incredible results after only 1 session.
I’m sharing this to adjust your expectations.
Unfortunately, I’m starting to see in social media a similar trend as in my previous coaching experience. Somatic and trauma resolution information telling you you can do and be anything you want with xyz method.
Magic pills being sold.
I speak to people everyday who have been mislead by healing information out there. As a result they feel discouraged, frustrated and confused. Thinking that something must be wrong with them because online somatic course X didn’t help, or because practitioner Y wasn’t able to support them.
Don’t get me wrong, somatic healing work, when done correctly with care and titration, is a life saver. It was definitely a life saver for me. But I had to learn to work with my own window of tolerance. This takes time, patience and understanding of the unique ways your nervous system operates.
Healing is possible, but not in the way we have been sold.
The beauty of knowing how to work with your nervous system is that you can use this framework for life. It’s not a quick fix, so you don’t lose what you gain along the way. You are also continuously building capacity and stretching your window of tolerance as you work with this framework.
