Your protective parts can sabotage your healing

We hear the term self sabotage everywhere, but it’s just parts of you that self sabotage. It’s not the real you that plays this role.

When there is trauma in your system ( anything that was too much for your system to handle). Your psyche splits to be able to cope with the demands of the overwhelm. This is what enables you to be functional in life.

So now instead of having a Healthy part only. The psyche also fragments into Traumatised parts and Surviving/protective parts.

The job of the protective parts is to guard the psyche from anything that it sees as dangerous. It creates illusions and stories, so that you even start avoiding good opportunities in life.

It also doesn’t want the Healthy part of you to get in touch with your Traumatised parts ( the part of yourself that stores all the memories of the trauma/s you have been through).

With this, you stop truly living and most of your energy goes towards avoiding getting hurt again.

It gets even trickier, because the Surviving/protective parts will also try to sabotage your healing journey, as true healing means getting in touch with your Traumatised parts again, in order to integrate them.

Here are a few ways your protective parts can sabotage your healing:

• By keeping you choosing surface level healing modalities and quick fix coaching programs.

• By pretending you don’t have any trauma and that you are doing just fine, even though you deep down know this is not the case.

• By finding faults in therapists/coaches/mentors who have good tools and experience to support you.

• By quitting the healing work when you start to get deeper.

• By creating fantasies and an identity of a spiritual seeker.

• By creating a pseudo self that pretends you are strong and can handle everything by yourself.
