A simple solution for difficult times
When it comes to real “progress” in the healing path .
The most important thing, apart from taking self-responsibility, is to accept life for what it is. Pragmatically acceptance of reality, plus working with life as it shows up.
When I say “progress” I don’t mean what people imagine as a life of big success and applause, with huge visible achievements.
I mean, to be on the path of having a life you are functional in all areas. To have a life when unpredictable things happen and you don’t fall apart at every minute (although falling apart is part of the healing journey and there is nothing wrong with it. A theme for another post).
I’m talking about a life of resilience and trust in life’s and God’s perfect wisdom.
A life where you can see you are doing your best with what you have. A life without self-deception and avoidance (my old favourite maladaptive behaviour).
Things may suck. You may feel like s*it some days, but I have a basic recipe that helped me in my healing journey and it helps all my clients when old difficult patterns resurface or difficult external situations show up.
It’s not fluffy. It is not magic. It is pragmatic, but it works.
Here it goes:
⚜️ Keep your morning routine simple.
⚜️ Carry on doing the practical things in your life. Focus on the everyday simple tasks.
⚜️ Do not buy into thought patterns.
When an old pattern is activated the thoughts that come with it are quite unpleasant. You don’t have to buy into them. They are most often
self-defeating and helpless type of thoughts and are not true.
⚜️ Go early to bed and get enough sleep.
⚜️ Nervous system regulation, use your resources (see ‘Resources’ and ‘Nervous system’ highlights).
Always work with what is in front of you. Life is already showing you what you need to do.
Keep going.
You are healing, even when it doesn’t look like it.
In doubt, work with reality and never against it.
