A somatic exercise to add to your toolbox for when you feel unsafe
Sharing a 3-step exercise for periods when your system is feeling unsettled.
🤔 Think of a time when someone was kind to you. It can be a recent or old occurrence. It can be a brief encounter with an acquaintance or time spent with friends or family.
💭 Bring to mind as many specific details as you can remember. What was the person wearing? Where were you? What was their demeanour at the time? What did they say? What did they do? How was the look on their face? Make these details alive in your mind.
⚜️ Now notice: How do you feel in your body when you recall this moment and all the details? Where do you feel a sense of relaxation or/and openness? See if you can pinpoint specific areas of your body that feel a sense of ease. Focus on them for a few moments and enjoy these pleasant sensations.
