How can I stop getting triggered?

I often get variations of this question when people start the somatic work with me.

Getting “triggered” is natural and actually the norm when your nervous system is in a state of hyper vigilance and overwhelm.

That’s why part of the somatic work is to slow down, give the body time and space to reorganise, but at the same time, in between sessions.

You are encouraged:

🌿To start to notice what state your nervous system is at, moment to moment.

🌿To use resources throughout your day, even when you are not feeling triggered.

🌿To create awareness around what exactly triggers your system.

🌿To explore when/how you are inclined to overextend yourself and how that can lead to more triggers and more overwhelm.

🌿To get to know your unique window of tolerance and trying to organise your life in a way you can stay within it.

Together we work on “building” more capacity within your system, so that you are able to take on more of those things you wish to do.

You will find yourself being less triggered, the more we uncouple and discharge stored survival stress.

And with more resilience, when you do get triggered, your nervous system will come back to a healthy baseline with more ease.

It’s not so much about the absence of triggers and more about respecting and working closely with your unique physiology. Triggers will sort themselves out in the process.

The more space in your system, the less unexpected reactions to triggers.
