If you have a sensitive nervous system, read this…

Have you heard of the term HSP? It stands for Highly Sensitive Person.

There is interesting research on this that points to genetic routes. But I’m still not so sure what comes first trauma or being HSP?! Experiences reported by Highly Sensitive people are also very common in people with a history of developmental trauma.

If you experience some of these, you may be a HSP or you may have a history of developmental trauma, or both.

🔸Get overwhelmed by noises, smells and/or tastes.

🔸Struggle to organise thoughts when there is disorganisation and clutter in the environment.

🔸Struggle with performance when there is lack of sleep. Poor sleep can also increase your level of sensitivity to environmental stimuli.

🔸Crowed spaces can make you feel exhausted.

These “symptoms” also happen to be symptoms of an overwhelmed nervous system.

The good news is that when you regulate your nervous system your sensitivity can decrease and your life style and productivity can improve tenfold!

I, for instance, couldn’t stand crowed spaces. It would literally ruin my energy for days. But I can now spend hours in busy shopping centres, if need be.
I still don’t like shopping centres, but at least now they don’t drain my energy for days and I get home and still get loads done.

If you would like to read a bit more about HSP, you can head to my highlight on Instagram titled “Empath & HSP”.

Nervous system regulation is a life saver for people with sensitive nervous system.

Can you relate? Do you notice these “symptoms” in yourself?
