The habit of gaslighting the body
Itโs not possible to think our way out of freeze/shutdown (aka stuckness, depression, low energy, low mood etc...)
Instead
We can support our bodies to feel safe and come back online by:
๐ฟ Orienting
๐ฟ Feeling the ground
๐ฟ Gentle movement
๐ฟ Connecting with nature
๐ฟ Singing
๐ฟ Listening to music
๐ฟ Humming ...
We can also support ourselves by cultivating an attitude of openness and curiosity.
Be open and curious about your freeze/shutdown responses. If you notice self judgement, shame or the need to go into stories. Gently dial down these unhelpful narratives and replace the hyper focus on them by taking a small action in the moment.
There is no shame in these survival strategies of escaping to the mind and other patterns. It was what helped us survive. But these strategies are now outdated, so we need to gently nudge ourselves towards a different direction.
If we keep on trying to change our physiology, by constantly pushing and mentally figuring our way out of it, we are simply suppressing and gaslighting ourselves.
We canโt find our true window of tolerance by trying to override and ignoring the nervous system.
